      <image:title>Gallery - My positionality in the classroom is shaped by my embodied, historicized experience.</image:title>
      <image:caption>I am a lightskinned, Black biracial cis- queer women who plants her feet on stolen indigenous land each morning. I live with anxiety, allergies, and wonder, delight, and hope. I went to school during No Child Left Behind, taught middle school during Obama’s first presidency, coached educators during 45’s presidency, and graduate schooled during the COVID pandemic. I’m a Virgo sun, Scorpio moon. I’m born of and li(o)ved in borderlands and borderworlds from El Paso, TX, to the capitol of the confederacy, NYC and South Dakota’s reservations. These places and relationships I carry make me. All of this shapes my vision of learning, or aliveness.</image:caption>

      <image:title>About - About Me</image:title>
      <image:caption>To know me, you must know where I come from. Collaged here is my grandmother, a retired Kindergarten world-maker who graduated from the one-room school her very own grandmother ran—a school where black girls learned of their power. I am first a relative—a daughter, a sister, a niece, an auntie—and next, I am a fourth-generation educator and learner.</image:caption>

      <image:title>About - Pictured here is my mother and father. I am the product of a once-illegal love—the inheritor of worlds and ways of being that shape my every step. My mother was the first in her family to graduate from college and leave her German village to teach in America. Her mother survived WWII bombings and was her family’s first to leave the farm and get a job tending the elderly. My father’s mother, and her mother before her, and her mother before her were all Black elementary school teachers in deep Mississippi. He takes up this legacy by advocating for those who are discarded by our systems.</image:title>

      <image:title>Letter to Teachers - We are living in precarious times. Teachers have returned to classrooms in the midst of a pandemic, in the midst of a “war” on teaching children about racism, in the midst of large-scale systemic failure. As if a global pandemic and climate crisis were not enough to shatter our spirits, our country faces the largest mental health crisis it has ever witnessed.</image:title>
    </image:image>
    <image:image>
      <image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/60897073ab0ea454a9b6940a/766eb0d7-c6f9-42ea-b0d3-7fa6e4567b09/Hand+in+Hand</image:loc>
      <image:title>Letter to Teachers - Despite all this, to spite all this, we must dream. Let us first be clear about what it is and means to dream. Dreaming is not aspiring to minoritized students’ success within the strictures of our American schooling institutions-- that is surviving. The trademarked, respectability-laden visions of Black capitalism are not necessarily dreams either; Black Girl Magic and Black Boy Joy are just two of the ways that our dreams, as Robin DG Kelley writes, “have been utterly coopted by the marketplace (Kelley, p.7). As ever, we turn lemons to lemonade (now, under neoliberalism, for a tidy profit). But to dream toward freedom is an altogether different project. We must turn lemons into a whole new world.</image:title>

      <image:title>Letter to Teachers - And yet, like Lauren, we somehow miraculously find the power to do something: we somehow manage to find the right words to comfort a grieving child. We someone manage to catch the disillusionment in our colleagues’ eyes and make them smile—even if it’s fleeting, even if it’s a smile with tear-soaked cheeks. We somehow find the courage to disagree with our administrators, or defy the mandates they receive to cruelly control our children’s bodies and minds.</image:title>

      <image:title>Letter to Teachers - What myths about survival and thriving in this country must you make clear as you think about your own practices of survival and thriving? What would you want your students to understand about the ways of the world? What lessons from your ancestors would you share? From your place of power, what personal stories must (yes, must) pepper your lessons? What paradoxes of education (or the schooling system) would you unapologetically name? What role do children in play rebuilding this nation? What role do teachers play? And why? Why? Why! Why?</image:title>
